Two productive days
Nov. 23rd, 2007 09:54 pmI have had a productive long weekend so far. My plan yesterday was to cook, I took brussels sprouts gratin and cranberry sauce to
plumtreeblossom's Thanksgiving celebration. But it was such a beautiful day I decided to rake up the leaves in my backyard. I haven't bought a rake yet, though, so I walked back to my old place, borrowed a rake there and brought it back here. Raked the leaves and took the rake back. While I was there, I picked up the three plastic yard chairs I had left behind in the move. It's convenient that my new place is walking distance from the old. When I got back here, I met some of my neighbours for the first time, then got cleaned up for Thanksgiving dinner. Dinner was lovely, and it was a treat to see
plumtreeblossom and her sweetie. I look forward to finding one of my own.
Today, I observed International Buy Nothing Day. I made multigrain banana pancakes for breakfast, cleaned up the kitchen and organised the last of my food into cupboards. Then I baked fruitcake. I had put dried fruit (apricots, cherries, plums, raisins and currants) to soak in brandy on Wednesday night in preparation. After the fruitcake was in the oven, I unpacked the last of the dishes. Only two dishes broke, and they were not my favourites. I found that I needed a little more space, so I reorganised the downstairs storage room to set up a few shelves for party dishes. That's three boxes unpacked today, and the last of the kitchen things.
Next on my list is to haul out the garbage and the recycling--I probably should have done that before sitting down to LJ.
